With the 2019-20 academic school year fast approaching, teachers, administrators, and other school faculty are anxiously working to ensure they are prepared to welcome students back to the classroom. These efforts include sourcing necessary supplies for the classroom, and for tutoring and afterschool programs.
This is where GRAD Cincinnati enters the picture. GRAD Cincinnati is a nonprofit organization that provides academic support to help students achieve in the classroom, grow as individuals and citizens of the community, graduate from high school, and enter and complete a college education.

Employee gives back to organization
Whitney Hollingsworth, a Cincinnati Bell employee and GRAD Cincinnati Board member, has a special relationship with the nonprofit.
As a high school student living in a dysfunctional home, Whitney found GRAD Cincinnati to be a safe haven that offered the emotional support she desperately needed to face many difficult nights at home.
With GRAD’s help, Whitney graduated as valedictorian of her 2012 high school class and received numerous college scholarships. Whitney attended the University of Cincinnati and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology – Software Application Development, and a minor in Communications.
Naturally, Whitney is passionate about giving back to the organization that has given her so much.
Cincinnati Bell hosts supplies drive
Whitney and her peers in the Cincinnati Bell BOLD Employee Resource Group are hosting a school supplies drive now through August 14 to benefit four elementary schools sponsored by GRAD Cincinnati.
Supplies needed include:
- Glue sticks
- Highlighters
- #2 Pencils
- Colored Pencils
- Pink erasers
- Copy paper
- Dry erase markers
- Binders (1 inch 3 rings)
- Composition Notebooks (black and white)
- Crayons (packs of 24 count)
- Folders (2 pockets w/prongs)
- Plastic Pencil Boxes OR Zippered Pouches
- Scissors (child friendly)
